Insulating Your Home

Reducing Your Heating Costs:

In addition to insulating your home here are a few more tips on how you can reduce your heating costs.

 

Carpet & Rugs - 15% of heat is lost through the floor placing rugs or carpet on your floor boards will reduce your heat loss

Blinds & Curtains - 10% of heat is lost through windows so installing thermal backed binds or curtains

Blinds & Curtains - Close your blinds and curtains at night and open them during the day

Windows - Double glazing your windows will also reduce the loss of heat and protect your home from outside noise

Warm Winter Days - If the air outside is warmer open the house and let the cool air out and the warm air in

Heating - Use timers and thermostats to control your heating, reducing your thermostat by just 1 or 2 degrees can have major effect.

Heating - Close off any rooms you don’t wish to heat.

Heating - Put a blanket under your mattress, this stops the cold coming through

Heating - If ceilings are high like cathedral ceilings install a ceiling fan to move hot air that rises down to room level.

Fans - Whilst they do not actually cool the temperature but they are much cheaper to run and make you feel up to 8 degrees cooler.
