Property Requirements:

The optimum direction to face your solar panels in Australia is due North. However roofs that are 30 degrees North West or North East can still have solar panels installed without a huge reduction in electricity production. Note you will need about 12m2 of roof space for 1.5kW solar power system.

What Size Solar System:

Typically most home owners opt for a 1.5kW solar system because the Government's Solar Credit Scheme benefit is capped at this amount. A 1.5kW system will produce about 30% of the average family homes energy needs. Of course depending on your available space you can install larger systems however the return on your investment will not be initially as high.


 

 

 

How Much Does A Solar System Cost:

Prices vary considerably between solar installation companies so pays to shop around. As a guide a typical 1.5kW solar panel system, fully installed, will cost between $9,000 and $12,000. How Much You Will Save Immediately:

Depending on where you live the government's Solar Credit Scheme will save you between $5200 - $7,000 off the purchase price of your system. Most solar companies quote you net of this saving and will look after all paper work and aspects of this credit on your behalf. 

 

 

How Much You Will Save Each Year:

A 1.5kW system will produce about 30% of your homes electicity needs currently saving you about about $500 a year for the next 20 - 25 years. (And even more as electricity prices rise in the future ). If you choose to invest in a larger system you may also be able to take advantage of state Feed In Tariffs FIT which pay you a premium rate about 2- 3 times the electricity rate for any surplus electricity you produce.

 

 

 

Feed In Tariffs: NSW & ACT

NSW & ACT residents have the added benefit of a Gross Feed In Tariffs FIT which means instead of paying you for the surplus energy you produce your electricity supplier will pay you a premium rate on ALL the electricity your system produces. Saving you about $1300 a year for the next 7 years. Note: This incentive is capped at 50MWh and currently the uptake is in excess of 30MWh so you will need to get in quick.
 

 

 

Who Is Eligible For Solar Panel Rebates:

Effectively anyone who owns a property is entitled to install solar panels & take advantage of the many incentives to do so. The government inducements are not means tested and have few conditions other than -  

    * Solar panel system must be installed by a CEC accredited installer and 

    * Solar panel system must meet Australian standards.
